Wow, great job: that is what they probably learn for their heli-license in Germany. If this pilot is now able to do the same with a AH-1, he should get a job in the US Army!!

@KraftsauOhlsdorf is actually in Austria: that´s where US-Army helicopter-pilots as well as the Army Ranger Mountain Troops get their alpine training.....

Very stupid.....: I don't think THAT was a stunt. Rather a mistake. See those skids squat? Pretty good if it was a high speed auto-rotation practise slid though. But just imagine if he caught a skid in the soft ground, flipped and sent his tail rotor in one direction and the two mains went towards the crowd. Joke all ya want about it, THAT was VERY stupid......AND he did it w/pax onbd.

Doesn't take long until: some guy starts with saying "first off i got a heli licence, so i know wtf i'm talkin about" ... geez, it's almost like commenting nascar races like some expert, just 'cause u have a drivers licence.. it's a pretty big distance from getting a licence, to being a professional pilot with real-life experiance...

if it was intentional iwas too hard!!!: if you look at the slow motion you can see the rotor shaft flex almost to the breaking point ... i think he was just damn lucky to come out of that!

Heres one for ya.: Ever heard of autorotation?

    • Yodizzy

      Yodizzy - 2 years ago

@bcc8280yea your stupid: autorotation is when the engine dies and you use the wind rushing up through the blades to guide the helicopter to a landing

    • Yodizzy

      Yodizzy - 2 years ago

@bcc8280p.s.: if this pilot was doing it, he would have increased the collective pitch so that it would not have dropped down so fast

intentional?: he hit the ground pretty hard you can tell by the amount of flexing in the landing gear.... if its was intentional it went a little over what he intended.

    • Jeph4life

      Jeph4life - 2 years ago

@pekeqpekeI think the choper is set up for tricks: and prolly has special shock absorbers on the landing gear that when pushed down they propel the choper back up to prevent doing a nose dive

  • Buffalo_Ron

You: don't do anything, like that, being that close to people with a flying buzz saw..... period!

  • impartial

the commentator: states the touchdown is part of the performance, saying: "Yeah, he did it. This is about as far as one can go." So I guess the pilot did it on purpose.

  • Ladder209

    Ladder209 - 2 years ago

i agree: for those who hate technical stuff, look at the skids. Helicopter skids aren't really designed with shock absorbers that can take that kind of pounding. It is not supposed to do that.

yep: im goin with the guy below me he was pretty shakey leveling back out... see how when he pulled up he pitched back then forth... prolly misjudged his altitude airspeed vertical descent rpms and or collective pitch... bummer

Complete stuff up: This wasn't a "planned" thing, and people do not do this procedure if the engine quits!! What happened here was the pilot did a "torque turn". With speed the pilot pulls aft cyclic to turn speed into height gain. At the top of the climb, with some gentle collective which the pilot raises which in turn increases torque. Now without adjusting the pedals or "anti-torque" the fusalage will turn opposite to the rotattion of the rotors. As it turns, the pilot can ease foward on the cyclic to

    • NZPilot

      NZPilot - 2 years ago

@NZPilotto cont.: is that he was faced being heavy, downwind and not enough height to recover. Look at the windsock in the video. ANY SELF RESPECTING pilot knows into wind is a life saver. That machine was badly damaged. My mate worked on it. The pilot stuffed it up. And could have hurt lots of people. It was not an autorotation, as he was too steep, too fast. You can hear him pullinf full aft cyclic to try and level out. Listen to the noise the blades are making. All i will say is he should lose his licence. Pil

Isn't this...: what pilots are trained 2 do when they have an rotor failure? Landing on the wind: steep dive and pull back 2 land??
