I also was on that flight. It took a six person surgical team to remove the seat cushion and skymall magazine from my rectum!!

Perhaps it was already a second attempt, thats why he would risk such a landing?

Hard to tell due to the telephoto, but it looks to me he had chewed up an awful lot of runway before deciding to abort anyhow. I think it was time to go around again long before the wing clipped the ground. Bad pilot in my view.

@lozzah666It's called cross wind landing...not for a novice pilot.

"actually clips the ground with its wing before aborting what could of been a disastrous landing." Ummm that would have been a CRASH not a landing!

I was on that flight to grand-ma's house. They gave us a free return flight and a clean pair of underwear.

Actually.. That's the way they're trained, when flying in high winds, you always fly at an angle, then correct yourself when close to the ground, which is what he tried to do. It's part of their training, I've seen many videos on it.

I think: the pilot did a pretty good job, he didnt crash the plane! The wind picked up his right wing and then he corrected but Ive done worse myself.

actually: the wing didnt touch the ground. the wingtip vortex probably just blew up some dust, stll that is ungodly close what fucktard would ok this on either end of the landing

      basicInstinct - 3 years ago

@DeusRomaniactually: it really touched the ground as the pilot said in every newspaper..

Pilot needs his ass kicked: for attempting that severe of a crosswind landing. And the air controller in the tower needs his ass kicked for clearing it. Is killing yourself and your passengers worth keeping with the flight schedule?

    • Cyfre

      Cyfre - 3 years ago

@Mr_TidemanI guess that depends on: how much fuel is left, and that pilot was clearly incredibly skilled.

    • roosevelt33

      roosevelt33 - 3 years ago

@Mr_TidemanNo kidding: spend enough time waiting to land and suddenly it becomes an emergency to do so..

not at all: those winds are at least 40 mph gusting to 50 kts.. it was a good glide slope but winds just too much.. she did right by going around..

    • M__Bitsko

      M__Bitsko - 3 years ago

@KCPILOT40 mph?: The wind was gusting to over 100 mph (more than hurricane force) with a strong crosswind component. It is absolutely criminal that they didn't divert to a different airport. In the end, the pilot's decision to attempt the landing in dangerous conditions was at fault, but ATC should have warned him off, too.

This pilot: Made terrible Aeronautical Decision Making. Judging by his position down the runway he should have executed a missed approach. He was not in a normal position to land.
