Regarding the "an year" or "a year" 1: Basically, it's "A" for a consonant, "AN" for a vowel. There are exceptions. * A university, a unit of measurement * An hour, an honour, an herb (if American, since they drop the h). * Y is not always treated as a vowel. It's considered a semi-consanant. The correct English in this case would be "a year", as the y works as a consanant in this case.

Hey... minor math issue... if the mother is going to be 5 times older than the son in 6 years... the equation shoulda been 5(x+6)=(y+6) because the mothers age is going to be five times the sons age... just if ya wanna get the maths right in an otherwise lame gag ;o)
@JoelMcCulla No Joel, you're not reading that correctly (or doing the maths right). The age of the mother is X and the age of the son is Y If it was the way you wrote. 5(x+6)=y+6, then the mother would be 135 when the son is 5yr3months. Another way to look at it is to use a simpler version and numbers. A brother, who's 10, is twice as old as his younger brother. 10 = 2 * Y. The "twice" bit goes to the younger person, that way we have 10 = 2*5. (10=10). Otherwise it'd be 20 = 5 which doesn't work.

@NIGGERHATERS Surprisingly.... you are wrong. An actually educated person knows that one must use the word "an" when the first letter of the following word is a vowel. Y is considered to be a vowel. Though it may sound funny... he is correct.

hmm2: Damn it. x=21 plus y but x= 5(y plus 6) not x plus 6 equil to 5( y plus 6) . not both ages increaced. come on think about it. Son increaced by 6. yes, but mother is 5 times the total of the son so no need to add the 6 onto her.
