Ford Recalls Trucks

Ford announced a recall today of 37,400 trucks. The reason was flames shot out of the tailpipes. Not sure how that actually slipped by quality control. Here is one of the trucks demonstrating the flaw. Got to imagine this could of caused a few complaints from pedestrians as well.

The problem is caused by a malfunction in the emissions system that Ford places in all new Super Duty diesel trucks. In these trucks there's something called the Diesel Particulate Filter that filters out most of the black smoke that diesel trucks put off. When it starts to get clogged, the truck senses it and intentionally runs rich on fuel and burns it off in the DPF to clear it out. This video is of the truck thinking its clogged when it really isn't and the resulting "afterburner" effect.

its a gas engine that isnt firing on all cylinders diesel fuel wouldnt burn like that the gas isnt being burned and it is getting super heated by the exhaust pipes and igniting as soon as it reaches oxygen or the end of the tailpipe

    • luigio94

      luigio94 - 3 years ago

@Doobie570heat isn't enough to start gas on fire, it needs a spark.

@Doobie570it is a diesel azz hat. and diesel can burn when aerated with spent exhaust.

from the terrible noises the engine is making, I'm guessing he pulled out some spark plugs to send unburned fuel down the exhaust.

@Chris123234babyblade is right they use a glow plug and that once it warms up you can start it. But it did sound like it had a rod knocking.

@mmurph31lol no doubt: Why can't american automakers actually produce a solid vehicle? Ford/GM/Chevy/whatever = shit. <3 my Audi.

    • maverick21

      maverick21 - 3 years ago

@mmurph31first off: FVCK audi. they just can't make cars like they use too cause there's too much extra unneeded shit that goes into a car. a have a 1976 ford maverick 6 cylinder that has 256,532 miles on it. and plus the majority of all people can't take care of their own car. so it dies.

sigh: Fords had this problem when they first released there new diesels with EGR. If you need proof look up the lawsuit Ford filed against International (the makers of the powerstroke). This happened when the truck would try to heat up the exhaust to burn out all the soot/residue collected in the reservoir... it got too hot and then the unburned diesel reignited.

    • Throttle13

      Throttle13 - 4 years ago

@negativeoxydeYes, but...: there was a recall, it only affected about 8700 owners, the rest were done on dealer cars. It was a simple software update. There were only 3 reports of flames and ONE (read it: ONE) reported small grass fire due to the flames that did not do any damage or hurt anyone. THIS video shows a modified exhaust with a spark plug igniter (it is the loud ticking) and has nothing to do with the recall. Good try on trying to trash Ford, though you still FAIL. Loser.

      BigJim223 - 4 years ago

@negativeoxydewell obviously if the trucks not supposed to do that, there obviously is a need for a recal, if ford didnt recall after that the: you neven see shit like this on chevys or dodges.

Wow: You can hear the igniter. Not a recall, just a guy with too much time on his hands. Ford wouldve had to publicly announce a recall of its cash cow, the F series. Douches...
