okay guys: its been said before but friggin going full speed and landing on your side is going to knock the wind out of you. and the kids is obviously okay because if it was anything worse the kid wouldnt have been crying right after he was "hit" because if it was serious the brain releases chemicals to null the pain for a couple of secs. Its a survival instinct to null the pain to allow for a couple secs to escape "danger"

I saw this whole story on some tv show a while back.: Just to clarify a few things: In the slow-motion reply (not shown on Break) you can see the player get his arms under the kid and scoop him up at the last second. This very athletic move may have saved the kids life (the receiver deserved the applause), but because his arm was out he was unable to break his fall and got the wind knocked out of him (that's why he stayed down). The kid went to the hospital, but was released after being checked out. Last
