So, you kids don't know much about aeronautics or fluid dynamics. That's OK... The vapor cone is called a Prandtl–Glauert condensate. It frequently occurs around fighter jets, missiles, & rockets like the Space Shuttle, as they approach the sound barrier. However, vapor cones can form at much lower speeds with the right combination of humidity, barometric pressure, & surface area. In fact, these NEVER occur during actual supersonic speed, because the water droplets could never catch up. The

he wasn't even close: to breaking the sound barrier. He wasn't going nearly fast enough.

@GodSmackdowndude... did you not SEE him going through the sound barrier? :s as tom43090 said, you can clearly see the sonic boom

and that's not a good thing...: the afterburners malfunctioned AFTER he broke the sound barrier!? O.O

I served on this ship: I was actually serving on the John Paul Jones shortly after this happened and new a friend of the guy who shot this video. The pilot ejected and was rescued by the search and rescue team almost immediately. The jet was an F-14 Tomcat and what I understand, one of the afterburners malfunctioned, causing the engine to essentially explode.

@briankeithharperwhat's the difference between exploding and "essentially exploding"? :p

I think: It may be to do with the turn. They broke the sound barrier then proceeded to turn, maybe then something came loose. Just my input.

dead?: Maybe when something goes wrong with a plane like that, it ejects automatically whether the pilot is concious or not. So it's possible he ejected but didn't survive. I don't know what the chances of surviving an ejection from a cockpit is when you're going that fast but they wouldn't disintegrate. There is a chance he lived.

get that shit right!: those arent tracers shithead. that is video static, also, that plane does break the sound barrier multiple times before it explodes

    • xeokym

      xeokym - 2 years ago

@Mosh2k2RETARD: dude, you're retarded, you only break the speed of sound ONCE, it doesn't happen multiple times, idiot! It's like when you're accelerating in a car, you hit 50 mph and continue on to 55, then 60....unless you slow down and speed back up again, there is only ONE point where you begin to go faster than the speed of sound. When you pass that speed it doesn't happen again...DUH

    • BigBlockV8

      BigBlockV8 - 2 years ago

@Mosh2k2unless you slow down again,: which if that plane is going head on into the wind just might be possible to break the sound barrier multiple times

broke sound barrier, pilots survived: thought it looks like they died they survived

this cool..till he dies: this is really cool and no i dont see the tracers

  • durham68

    durham68 - 2 years ago

Anyone notice the tracers: Take a closer look. Looks like someone is shooting at this f-14. It's most obvious around the 14-15 second mark. Looks like three tracers from something far off...maybe another ship.

  • ephidaboost

    ephidaboost - 2 years ago

look at ejection-history.org: Both pilots ejected and survived with burns. The pilots took off from USS Lincoln and the engines exploded right after they passed the sound barrier.

damn.. pretty kool: the mf who flew this died. just goes to show that the military wastes money on shit like planes that cant even handle the speed they are suppose 2 go

@n00bfactor19stfu: thats such a stupid thing to say

    • schobie

      schobie - 2 years ago

@n00bfactor19.: f-14 arn't supposed to fly that fast when in combat, at that speed they cannot manuever plus it puts a lot of strain on the pilot

    • Adrico

      Adrico - 2 years ago

@n00bfactor19dead?: i dont think so, look at the end you can clearly see the pilots descending via parachute

    • dirtydave

      dirtydave - 2 years ago

@n00bfactor19Adrico: Do you really think that a person thrown from a midair Explosion from a jet breaking the sound barrier would be left in one piece???...Really Think About It.

also: what you've just seen isn't the plane breaking sound barrier. It was a mechanical engine failure.

@meshow69wrong: the cloud around the plane is it breaking the sound barrier dumb ass. trust me i know my shit.

That plane: Can easlily handle speeds exceeding Mach 1.5 Perhaps there was a faulty elec. or mechanical problem or maybe the pilot leaned to the right just a bit and farted...
