Just like the sequel to Top Gun, this jet pilot is simply too dumb to ever get off the ground. That's a good way to lose about a million bucks.

Pilots will put the gear handle up during takeoff roll. The weight-on-wheels switch will prevent the gear from retracting until the jet lifts off. Pilots do this because it looks snappy to have the landing gear pull up immediately after takeoff. Problem is, a gust of wind or runway countour that makes the jet get a little bit light on the wheels for a second before takeoff causes what you see here.
