What a messed up play! The pitcher throws a strikeout but gets charged with an earned home run while the batter gets a called third strike but gets the home run.

whatever happened, when a player starts running around the bases and the ump does nothing you better grab the ball and haul ass out to home. Figure it out later, but stop the runner.

This should have been an out (or at least it would be according to MLB rules). The batter took a step out of the batter's box toward the dugout. Once this happens, the batter is automatically out and can't run to first. There is only a play on the batter if he doesn't leave the box or goes toward first base. He clearly takes a step out to the dugout.

@sdpppnot true...your the kind of guy who thinks tie goes to the runner and hands are part of the bat too huh..lol. the rule is if he is avoiding a tag and not heading to first base...moron.

There was a runner on first base when strike 3 was called, the put out still had to be made at 1st base, regardless if the base was occupied. I don't understand japaneese, but the lead runner would of had to score as well, before the batter, for the call to be correct. I think I saw the other runner advance as well. Should have been 2 runs scored.

      WestValleyBaseball - 3 years ago

@gtomark71you're right, It's still a strike out because there was a runner and firrst, regardless if the thrid strike hit the ground, the batter cannot run if first is occupied

The batter is not credited with a hit of any kind. He struck out; he gets a K in the books. The official scorer would charge an error to the catcher, so it's an unearned run for the sake of the pitcher's ERA and a run scored for the batter. Assuming this were the batter's first AB of the game, he would be 0-1 with a K (E2).

The Correct call would be: The batter reached on an error and is now 0-1 (saying this was his first at bat). He earned a RUN SCORED, not a homerun. The pitcher earned a wild pitch, but was NOT charged an earned run. This is all a result of an ERROR, there are still only 2 outs in the inning, the defense needs to get their asses back on the field. THIS IS CORRECT.

    • hdblax02

      hdblax02 - 3 years ago

@hendermaIts not an error or a wild pitch, jsut a dropped third strike.

The ref was 100% correct in his call. Good judgement. You got to know the rules of baseball ! The ball hit the ground.

      Hicks8989 - 3 years ago

@Real_US_PatriotYou obviously know nothing about baseball, due to the fact that he is a umpire, not a ref.(unless in Japan they are called refs)(if so my bad)

@Real_US_PatriotIt's an umpire, fuktard, and clearly you don't know the rules of baseball.

@Slappymcnuggetcatcher didn't check down to first. Plus the ball looked in the dirt, not dropped, probably just my perspective though.

for those of you morons who don't know anything abut baseball: as long as there is no runner on first, the catcher has to tag out / throw to first on a dropped 3rd strike. It doesn't matter about any other bases, only if first is occupied. There was only a man on second, making this a completely valid play.

    • RUsum1

      RUsum1 - 3 years ago

@AgentOrange1025doesn't have to be dropped: catcher didn't drop this ball. but if the ball hits the dirt at all on third strike you have to get that hitter out. the only problem i have with this play is that the ump made the OUT signal by a fist pump. this is exactly like the white sox vs angels a couple years back in playoffs where white sox cheated their way to a championship.

    • ChinChopper

      ChinChopper - 3 years ago

@AgentOrange1025Ok: but was that a strike? It looked way outside the zone. I don't watch baseball much but that was strange.

    • eruleptanero

      eruleptanero - 3 years ago

@AgentOrange1025The pitch wasn't a strike...: But it looked like the kid's swing went across the plate. I would assume that that was the call.

    • battycota

      battycota - 3 years ago

@AgentOrange1025dropped ball: the ball wasn't dropped, it was pitched in the dirt. It was a ball. the ump was asking the 1st base ump if the swig was a strike. He never gave signal it was a strike. Watch the first few seconds real slow.
