With oil hitting $135 a barrel up over 1000% in about 9 years and gas prices hitting record highs yet again you might wonder where all this money is going.

pretty cool: amazing how this isnt in the US and is in the middle east. sucks that it will all plumbet in about 30 years when their oil runs out. they are dumb too. why build a tourist atttraction and waste all their money in less then 20 years? lol hope im alive when it plumbets back to eearth

    • Duplenty

      Duplenty - 3 years ago

@CoLeOwNsU.: It's called investing. They already make shitloads on tourism and will make much more after another 30 years of building.

This is such misinformation, its not even funny: WTF you blame Dubai for your oil problems? The UAE isn't rich because of oil. They're rich because they invested back into themselves to develop their country. The key spect which divides a developed country from an underdeveloped country is how they get their wealth. Most underdeveloped countries get their wealth from their natural resources. Developed countries get their wealth from manufacturing and services. Think about it; Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela,

This is inaccurate.: The UAE (the nation that Dubai is part of) exports only 2.5million barrels per day. Canada exports 2.25million barrels per day, are you complaining about Canada profiteering off of the United States? The United Arab Emirates does not even represent .5% of the United States' oil imports. Dubai itself is extremely lacking in oil reserves, and thus, it's Sheikhs have resorted to offering the number one tourist destination in all of the Middle East. There is the indoor skiing, the worl

Why do you think: they are building so many tourist attractions at once..they kno that they are running out so after the oil is dry they will still stay afloat from dubiland, the under water hotel and all of the other attractions...where else in the world can you go to the beach and ski at the same time while riding roller coasters and watching sports in an arena all in the same city

@brettdeand we thought we were the smartest: but little did we know of the sandy brains of the middle east...

    • Muppet213

      Muppet213 - 3 years ago

@brettdeYes...: And the Saudi Prince drives a silver plated Audi to attrach tourists. Oil revenues make more money than they know what to do with. Although these figures are off. More than half of Dubai is being built with money from investor's who have nothing to do with oil.

  • ProfessorDeath

    ProfessorDeath - 3 years ago

Big picture much?: The US produces over 30 times as much oil as Dubai. Dubai counts for less than 6% of the revenue of UAE, which themselves count for less than 3% of global oil production. Every day, the US consumes 80 times more oil than Dubai produces. But look on the bright side: Dubai will run out of oil in less than 20 years.

And..: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E don't know how well off you are, but five hundred billion dollars doesn't sound like small profit to me; per gallon, maybe.. but remember how many people drive in the U.S. Remember how heavily reliant we are on 18-wheel rigs to haul freight. Diesel is being priced extremely expensively in some parts now. Far more expensive than regular unleaded pump gas. That's a lot of spare change floating around.

Heh.: I like how the only thing everyone can say is, "Just wait and see!" When was the last time a natural disaster hit Dubai? The year before never? Concept art? The hotel is already open. The ski resort? Already open. The Palm? Nakheel has an amazing track record of delivering on their ambition; ambition, something the U.S. lacks a great deal of. Ironic how our greatest symbol of liberty was constructed and given to us by the French, a country that we now condemn. I happen to find this society quite un

oil companies make a small profit per gallon of gas: Europe's high prices, even ours as well, are due to taxation to support their failing socialist systems. Also, all of that stuff is concept art; most, indubitably, not approved yet. And also, yes, we should be consuming our own oil; we would be richer, etc. If we went nuclear like France for power, we would consume alot less oil as well. (We are switching to coal instead of nuclear power as an alternative to gas power plants; so much for saving the en

    • silentlord833

      silentlord833 - 3 years ago

@Demontrooperget educated: The governor of Montana stated quite some time ago that they have developed a completely green way of producing coal energy, the federal government is stalling the process thatnks to those wonderful lobbyists. research before you make staements.

    • Muppet213

      Muppet213 - 3 years ago

@DemontrooperSilentlord...: You have to educate yourself before requesting the same of others. Coal liquification isn't all the much greener since it still releases CO2, but it's not being used because it's not efficient to squeeze coal into gas right now. Kinda like every other energy source. Once it becomes economic, it will enter the market.

  • flamitaz

    flamitaz - 3 years ago

Its all part of: a plan. We probably won't get to see it in our lifetime (being 31), but its there. We're suffering right now, other people (country) are getting rich. But its the only way that it can be done, short of bombing them and jacking those countries for their black gold. Spend their resources first and then when its all used up guess who is gonna be exporting black gold? And at the price??? God, you don't even want to know!! I can't believe the other countries selling their oil don't see that. M

What is appealing about a large number of tall buildings?: Is Manhattan great simply because of the buildings? Even though Dubai has a diverse culture and isn't a strict, fundamentalist Muslin society, the Muslim influence is ever present. In general, Muslin societies aren't much fun, kind of like Utah. I wouldn't want to fly over there just to shop and spend time in the oppressive heat.
