Corona Beer Freezing Trick

This is a pretty cool trick with Corona beer. These guy put it in the freezer but it does not freeze until they tap it against a table and then you can watch it freeze near instantly. I didn't study any science in school, but it's pretty clear that fizz freezes faster than regular, non-bubbly liquid. So, when bubbles are created with the already very cold glass bottle, the bubble density drops and the outside of every bubble immediately freezes. That explanation is simply airtight. Get it, AIR tight?

This is simple thermo dynamics. If you put a beer in the freezer, the amount of alcohol along with the pressure inside the bottle, will keep it from freezing. Corona has a little more alcohol than normal beers, so it is harder to freeze. However, the pressure inside the bottle is what is important. When he hits the bottle on the table, the beer fizzes up like normal, but it is closed so it just builds up pressure. The increase in pressure, with a constant volume causes the temp to go down, therefore f

he put the dry ice IN THE BOTTLE CAP so when he hit it it fell into the beer, nice one BRO....nice one

@Nikolas-Bistro-462Actually, if you put dry ice in any liquid all you will get is fog. The reason for this instant freeze is because when it is frozen all the molecules are sitting next to each other and not causing any competition as such. So when he bangs the beer bottle the molecules start to buzz about banging into each other fighting for space then they form a bond commonly know as an instant freeze. the reason why this doesn't happen every single time you put a glass of water in a freezer is because the inside of the gl

@Sleebiscuit - I'm guessing the screw tops on your crappy beer don't hold up as well as the pop tops.

It must have something to do with what's in a Corona. The last time that I drank the stuff, which was over 20 years ago, both me and my brother almost got sick - that was just two beers, each. Nasty crap! I stick to much better beers, now. I drink Smithwick's, today, as my regular beer.

did it with apple juice last night, you can do it with any liquid, just leave it in the freezer for a few hours and pull the bottle out and move the liquid a little, it will ignite the liquid molecular composition to its freezing state

Idiots. It's Sodium Acetate. Not Thermodynamics which is one word which prove you have no idea what you are talking about. When a liquid with sodium acetate in it moves it is activated, soon hardening.

the CO2 is released all at once from the shock, which the gas is colder than the beer's freezing point....

Simple science, the beer super freezes (below freezing point but not solid) then when disrupted by a shock wave it instantly freezes

The temperature doesn't drop. The beer is just below its freezing point. When the bottle is hit the air bubbles generate nucleation sites that allow ice crystals to form. That in turn causes a cascade freezing effect. Gas escaping from the beer is not an endothermic event.
