this is clearly a smoke explosion and not a a backdraft!

This is George Bush's fault, there were explosives set as this could never happen from just fire alone.

Guys, I come from three generations of firefighting. That isn't a backdraft. Its a gas explosion. You can tel because the fir was free burning before the explosion. You can see the fire rolling out the window.

Great video awsome fire. But looks more like some type of gas explosion, to get a Backdraft u just need oxygen looks like plenty of that ie; all of the free burning fire. was that building a hardware store? hope no injuries but label it other than backdraft TOOmuch fire for one.

    • wtfz0rz

      wtfz0rz - 3 years ago

@lfd49you just NEED oxygen? a backdraft is when a fire is starved of oxygen, it can be caused by the GASES and smoke at a high temperature but needs action to keep the fire going. A fire will die down from lack of oxygen and as soon as a gust of wind, drop in pressure in the building(maybe a roof on the inside finally collapsed opening an oxygen vent?) and then BOOOM oxygen is now introduced to the starved fire and superheated gas and smoke and kablow the building is gone.

    • wtfz0rz

      wtfz0rz - 3 years ago

@lfd49i meant to say oxygen, not action.

It's an edit. I don't normally say FAKE, but this wopuld be the time to say it.: Look closer and you can see it. It's almost like you can see that they don't match up.

You are all partially correct: Watch the first floor closely. The fire has banked down and is being deprived of oxygen to begin with. Somewhere, venting occurs on the first floor, giving it enough oxygen to begin free burning. Now the first floor is heated enough and has the right oxygen mix to create a flashover. The explosion is not a backdraft, or a propane tank. This is known as a "smoke explosion" and is rarely properly identified. The explosion is actually occuring on the second floor. The unb

@Fyrfytr13possible backdraft: well it is possible that it is a back draft there could be a large enough void space or room that is not visable in the video. needless to say it is a good thing no one was trying to do a interior attack on it. and that looks damn cool.

      mentalmonkey36 - 3 years ago

@Fyrfytr13eh idk about that: from what i can see in the tape, the building has already done a great job venting itself, and from what is stated it is a "free burning fire". What looks like an explosion is actually the second floor collapsing onto the fire floor, which is the first, thus forcing all of the fire and burning material outward, like an explosion.

    • juistem

      juistem - 3 years ago

@Fyrfytr13Oh no it exatually was more like: Bla bla bla first floor, but then blablablabla second floor and because of the blablablablabla the building just exploded

    • Robel03

      Robel03 - 3 years ago

@Fyrfytr13not a backdraft. the fires out all the windows. anda flashover occurs early on between the growth and developed stages. Im gonna take a guess and say explosion. plus a large flashover like that youll see the smoke drop and change colors, then a violent pull in.

NOT A BACKDRAFT.: this is an explosion of something inside the building like a propane tank or something else. the fire is way past flashover and is free burning, to have a backdraft there has to be a lack of oxygen in the building. there is obviously enough oxygen in the building as shown by the orange glowing stuff known as FIRE BLOWING OUT OF EVERY OPENING!

    • TheMotoKing

      TheMotoKing - 3 years ago

@resqjason2NOT A BACKDRAFT: Oxygen was always present so this wasn't a backdraft, but instead this was flashover. See below... Flashover occurs when the majority of surfaces in a space are heated to the point (known as fire point) at which they give off flammable gases that are hot enough to sustain combustion. Backdraft is a situation which can occur when a fire is starved of oxygen; consequently combustion ceases but the fuel gases and smoke remain at high temperature. If oxygen is re-introduced to the fire, eg. by

@Poptart4Then you better go back to the academy, son....: That fire was already to extended too far into both floors of the structure to flash. Though they call it a backdraft, it appears more that there was a separate explosion inside that resulted in total structural collapse. And you can call me Chief, as in the kind with 5 bugles.

What explosion?: The only reason flames shot out the windows was because the building collapsed Kinda like stomping on a paper cup. All the air has to go somewhere. Open windows on the ground floor are just an easy place for the air to vent as the roof came down thru the building..

i dont know if i am being ignorant: but firefighting looks pretty easy, you are just spraying water on objects, it looks as if anybody can get dressed up in heavy clothing a point a house at a fire. Now a paramedic is a differeent story, that involves knowledge and skill.

YOU TRY going into a room when its going to flash over and open that nozzle longer than a burst kus your an idiot and all the thermal layering gets mixed and you cook yourself like a lobster, you f*u*c*k*i*n*g idiot, i could go on and on but ill let people that know what their talking about do that, which means fire fighters.

@cheeztaI understand the anger: But these guys are not inside the building. They are pouring water on a fire which is how most Fires are dealt with with the exception of fires where lives are inside. Please explain to me how sitting 50 feet away from a fire holding a hose is difficult and involves intelligence. Or how does walking into a burning building involve intelligence? I am not doubting the bravery and "ballz" of these guys but does spraying water on an object involve any sort of intelliegence?

    • cheezta

      cheezta - 3 years ago

@cheeztaafter reading all the posts: I see that the majority of rebuttals have to deal with courage, bravery, and "balls" of firefighters who have to go inside a unit that is on fire. I agree, that takes an extreme amount of bravery. My original Post did not question bravery. It questioned intelligence. If you go into a building and it collapses on you, this would incur that you were not knowledgeable or intelligent enough to know that they building was going to collapse. My question is this, how much intelli
