Someone has to explain this one to me. This is a Halloween audio illusion that continues to creep higher and higher every time you play it.

its because he's hacked onto the montranet; simulating the audio to each and every one of our computer machines.

hmm...: i'm probably wrong, but it's kinda like a tri-tone, but with a whole lot more than just three... your ears get acclimated (sp?) to the higher pitch on the scale and tend to listen for the next higher note... try listening to the lower note after hearing the higher one for a while... its still there

@wheateyYeah, you can catch it after the first couple notes and reset...your ears. Neat stuff though.

That's really cool: took a couple of listens to work out what was going on.

how it really works: theres a couple sets of diffrent octaves and they go up the same note every time but you hear one octave then you hear the next octave the second time and it goes up every time then it gets too high then resets.

How it works.: Simple. It loops the same thing over, ending and beginning on the same note, just a few octaves higher. Since the brain locks onto the high notes rather than the low notes, the lower note creeps up on you.

hmmm: Also if you continue to play it I believe at the 5th time it actually turned my volum setting down from 82 to 68 (I have vista so I see the numerical value)

@PaganKnighti'm sorry: but this thing was easy to figure out. it just replays the exact same thing over and over, just quit letting your ears hear the high notes. listen for the lows notes, and you'll notice it stays the same every time

@PaganKnightI agree with Renegad...: the first few notes sound high, then it subtly lowers and builds up toward the end so when you hit play right away, it sounds like it continues to get higher...

Awwww: When you figure it out, you can't hear it going higher and higher anymore. At least I can't - my brain wont forget what it've learned. :(

heheh: took me a few plays to figure out. clever - but it all happens in those last two pairs of notes. A lower-octave midi bleeds in to get you ready for the beginning of the video and voi la. You've got "OMG IT WENT UP STILL!!!"

Ha figured it out: It plays all the tones at once and your mind selectively chooses the higher pitches to be dominant as you reset the video. Just like when you play a chord you can sometimes hear the 7th without actually playing it

      newton2013 - 2 years ago

@smFotoDing: Yeah thats it, it still took me 3 listens to figure it out.

  • smFoto

    smFoto - 2 years ago

You have to do it quickly: or your mind will lose the pattern

HAHA: that's awesome. Get's higher in pitch each time

  • shitmofucka

    shitmofucka - 2 years ago

yeah,: there are 2 tones being played, both an octave apart. When you first listen, you listen to the low tone. When you listen a second time, you listen to the high one because the last note of the low one is the first note of the high one. Lame.

the way this works: is that the scale creeps up an entire octave. Also, there is an underlying tone an octave lower so when you replay it and the octave begins again, you think it is continually creeping up. Clever

  • PhatBastard

    PhatBastard - 2 years ago

Er....no: If you click back on your browser it stays the same but if you replay it the tone goes up. Something fishy here.
