a very thought provoking discussion and quite to the point of fact.

Most of the people on this message board (at least the first page) are twits. There can be people who are both scientists and have a faith. To believe that it can only be one or the other is completely ignorant. You can't look at some things and say that it was just completely random, there must be a higher intelligence that created these things! NOW I am not saying that it was a bearded man in the sky or anything but it has to have been something.
gojo99 - 9 months ago
@Ben-Jacobi-929 There's little doubt that there are some scientists with at least some degree of 'faith'. It's a very small percentage according to everything I've read however. The very concept of science is completely contrary to that of faith. And yes, I can look at all things and NOT think there must be a higher intelligence that created it. Just because we don't understand everything doesn't mean we need to invent a supernatural cause for it.

Fellow Christians, Occam's razor is a principle urging one to select among competing hypotheses that which makes the fewest assumptions and thereby offers the simplest explanation of the effect. This guys fascinatingly disturbing thought is assumption so while we are assuming things *wink... lets assume that the reason the common elements found in the universe and are also found in us is that god created the universe (earth-dust) from which he created us.
snowman815 - 10 months ago
@aliasman Your ability to twist and conform the logic of brilliant people to match that of your dogma and please your sun god is both fascinating and disturbing. I love how simple, reproducible facts get religious people worried and defensive. The idea of a vicious yet benevolent, loving yet intolerant, all powerful ruler of the cloud kingdom where everything is perfect is just about the most fantastic assumption possible. Therefor Occam's Razor renders your belief, unlikely. Religion is incompatible with
Lana-Kelley-986 - 9 months ago
@snowman815 Even the most brilliant thinkers, scientists and philosophers throughout history have logically, yes, logically, come to the conclusion that there is a prime mover, one being that created both us and the universe, a being also known as, calm down, i know this word is offensive: god. So before you embarrass yourself by attacking religion, read some Aristotle.
@Lana-Kelley-986 Yeah, read some Aristotle indeed such as this: "Prayers and sacrifices to the gods are of no avail" And this "Men create gods in their own image, not only with regard to their form but with regard to their mode of life." Perhaps it was you Lana who embarrassed herself?

Maybe since we supposedly were once at that capacity of chimps, and over time of evolution gained that 1%, then in time we or our descendants will acquire that 1% in that direction, enabling us to be that new more intellectual species!
Danny-Krieger-292 - 11 months ago
@Jason-Lovett-418 that took hundreds of millions of years, humanity will destroy itself well before that happens
EmagehtmaI - 9 months ago
@Danny-Krieger-292 More like a few million years. Modern man has been on the planet for only 100,000 years or so. "People" before that were "cavemen". And we may destroy ourselves, we may not. We have the technology now to destroy the world 1000 times over. What's stopped us?
stevo395 - a year ago
it's crazy if you think about it, I believe in god but regardless this is fascinating stuff. the only truth about human origin is that nobody knows where we came from
@stevo395 you can believe in god and believe in science... people who don't understand that are nitwits
ItemO_onine - a year ago
if we came from chimps....IMAGINE IF WE CAME FROM CATS!
@ItemO_onine We didn't come from chimps actually. That's a common misconception. Chimps and humans share a common ancestor. We're more like genetic cousins.
reuben303998 - a year ago
Wow he got all of that from 5 common elements and 97% common DNA... gotta love speculative science, it's what all our biggests ideas are based on.
John-Moore-499 - 11 months ago
@reuben303998 your right, lets just have faith in stuff that don't exist.
abenphx79 - a year ago
When are you religious ppl going to come to grips with the fact that God is a man-made creation. How else were ancient men going to explain earthquakes and lightning or cope with death? There is a good all-powerful God? I read about a little girl who was locked in her basement raped repeatedly for over 20 years. If I watch someone abuse a dog and don't stop it...I'm a horrible person. Your God just sits there and watches? All because he made a bet with the "Devil" and because he needs to
@ God is god, he can do whatever he wants to. he gave us free choice, he didn't rape that little girl.
@reuben303998 So if I give a monkey a gun and some steroids then watch him blow another monkey's brain's out that's cool because I'm a higher being and can do what I want? You religious people have fucked morals.
@reuben303998 He may not have raped that little girl, but he's committed several acts of genocide and commanded 'his people' to perform horrible acts of butchery and murder.

I wonder how much more advanced we would be with out religion holding the world back..
agentshatter - a year ago
@NomelemoN That's a good question....look at all the advancements made in the name of religion and ask yourself that again.
Freyah - a year ago
@agentshatter Well you are right in a way. Most wars and massacres were started because of religion - if not money or power. And wars spring invention of ways to kill people. I can't think of any real helpful inventions made because of religion though.
Talyn57 - a year ago
@agentshatter Oh yea, and no one has stated, what the world would be like, if the dark ages never happened
virginlove - 12 months ago
@Talyn57 I believe scientist think we would be two to three hundred years further in technology.
