Nope. Didn't have to take the pennies. A business can restrict forms of payment as it wishes.

It amazes me how dumb people are. Half of the people trying to be smart and posting shit like they know what they are talking about are wrong. The USA is full of unintelligent and ignorant people that live in a little bubble of idiocy. Go to school. Learn something: be productive. Most of these posts just affirm the fact that America is full of idiots.

I wonder how many pennies these douche bags wasted of the city's money calling the police to handle his crybaby ass. Shouldn't have parked it illegally, douche bag.

snopes says "businesses are free to accept or reject pennies as they see fit; no law specifies that pennies cease to be considered legal tender when proffered in quantities over a particular amount" but this is a impound lot..hmm

There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services.

By the way no business "has to" accept anything...just as many businesses now do not take $50 or $100 bills. The federal legal tender statute applies only to the federal government.

@thcharles Coinage Act of 1965; They have to take legal tender if its considered a debt. If the two company is a role of "creditor" then they are under federal law to take any form of legal tender...

@thcharlesNot true in this case. They had possession of the person's car. The business would have lost any lawsuit.
