http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FirstDrives/articleId=129837 --- Last month the New York Times pointed out that if it weren't for a loophole in the federal regulation of motor vehicles, the 2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid would be eligible for a hybrid-vehicle tax credit and also subject to a gas-guzzler tax. Now, the folks over at the Times have not always been what you might call tolerant of sport-utility vehicles. In fact, around the turn of this century, when the SUV-as-commuter-car phenomenon was nearing its zenith, you could find plenty of folks around Detroit who were convinced the mighty Times was waging a Holy Journalistic Crusade against vehicles such as the Dodge Durango. The truth is that the 2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid will be eligible for a hybrid-vehicle tax credit (estimated to be $1,800) and will not be subject to a gas-guzzler tax. When the gas-guzzler tax was instituted as part of the Energy Tax Act in 1978, SUVs and pickup trucks did not represent a significant portion of the main

It would be rude to interrupt it. As Hyundai's newest creation slips slyly into the luxury sedan market, we can hear the silent screams of some other fancy automakers. This car is nice. Really nice. Like why-would-we-spend-our-money-anywhere-else nice. It's the Cadillac of Hyundais.
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshows/losangeles/2008/index.html?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1.* --- With little competition from Europe this fall, the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show is set to feature one of its best lineups in years. Sure, there will be the usual pandering to all things green, but there will be cool cars, too. Look for debuts like the 2010 Ford Mustang, reskinned just in time to take on the Challenger and Camaro, and the 2010 Nissan 370Z, the latest version of Nissan's second most-famous sports car. On the green side, there will be an electric Mini, hybrid Camry and a reskinned Ford Fusion Hybrid. We'll be covering the show starting November 19, and this year we're giving you the chance to participate as well. Just add #LAAS08 to any post on Twitter and your comment will display directly on our Straightline blog. So whether you're at the show or just following along with our press day coverage, feel free to chime in and give us your opinion.
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=126177 --- South Grade Road and East Grade Road aren't the sort of evocative names you'd expect from the best driving roads to be found anywhere. But these smooth, flowing ribbons of asphalt, known locally in San Diego County as S6 and S7, are as good as anything we see on press junkets to Spain or Italy or Germany. No, really. Best of all, they're part of a nearby network of roads in the mountains above San Diego that make this region a weekend stomping ground for the car clubs, enthusiasts of high-strung Italian motorcycles (who have about six months to live, we figure) and the kind of drivers who can appreciate the supercharged 2008 Lotus Elise SC.
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=129446 --- Behold: The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro in all its full-on production glory. What? Well yes, it looks like that Camaro Concept we saw more than two and a half years ago at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. And it looks exactly as you knew it would from two years of spy shots of the car under development. And it will look exactly like this when it goes on sale in March of next year. You expected what? That it would look like a Corsica or a Mark VIII? Enthusiasts would no more forgive Chevrolet for watering down the stunning 2006 Camaro concept than they would forgive General Motors if it decided a year from now to cancel the Volt program. The concept, with its steely, all-business color, dark-tinted glass, pavement-skimming raked stance and fang-shaped side mirrors, looked like a 1969 Camaro designed by the Lockheed Skunk Works. Of course, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro production-specification cars pictured here — V6 models with 20-inch wheels that come
Heres the deal. There are only seven U.S.-spec GT-Rs on American soil and were taking one on the road. Weve got a new gas credit card, a white 2009 Nissan GT-R and three days to cover as many miles as we can. Nissan made us agree to just two rules.

A good chunk of Southern California is burning with brush fires this Saturday evening in November, but it turns out that the hot place to be is here in this small parking lot, as the incendiary new 2009 Nissan 370Z makes its first official public appearance anywhere on the planet. There are no firefighters on hand — or even an open flame — but the scene is on fire. Inside Line is the first to get its hands on the new '09 Z-car, and we're letting you get your hands on it, too. If you aren't here, it's your own fault. It's not like you weren't invited. We're in the parking lot of TWBA/Chiat/Day, Nissan's advertising agency in the U.S., and there's a scrum of wired-up Z-car people, some hitters from the project team at Nissan who created the new car and a platoon of people from Inside Line. Lights are hung from gantries to make the scene as bright as day, and digital cameras and handheld video cams are on every hip. There is even free food from the best damn taco truck in L.A. It's the coming-out party for th

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=129447# --- For three days straight, we tried to beat the daylights out of the 2008 Porsche 911 GT2. In the end, this Guards Red missile shrugged off the experience and beat the tar out of us instead. All we had to show for our efforts were a bruised right palm, a $1,300 receipt for replacement rear tires and a permanent smile. While selflessly obliging the lens-carrying members of our staff who asked if it'd be possible to get the 530-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive GT2 to do something interesting for the camera, we kicked this car's butt until we literally grew tired of the effort. And yet the 2008 Porsche 911 GT effectively replied, 'Is that all you've got? Give me some more tires and I'm good to go.' And go it does.
