This tutorial video will walk you through the process of installing and configuring vSphere ESXi 4.0 on a Dell PowerEdge 1950 server. VMware vSphere ESXi 4.0 is the most recent bare metal hypervisor released by VMware, Inc. The ESXi line of hypervisors are considered thin hypervisors as they do not include a Service Console/Console Operating System. vSphere ESXi comes in two major flavors: vSphere ESXi Embedded, which are hardware memory modules shipped by OEM vendors such as Dell, Compaq, IBM etc.; and, vSphere ESXi Installable, which is distributed by VMware, Inc. as an ISO image that the install CD is created from. This video is based upon the latter of the two.It should also be noted that vSphere ESXi 4.0 can be downloaded and used for free, with all of the standard functionality that ships with the commercial standalone ESX and ESXi products.

Ever get the error message VMotion and IP Storage Has Not Been Enabled when trying to configure the ESX software iSCSI initiator? How about Error during the configuration of the host: Please make sure you have configured networking for VMkernel when attempting to configure an NFS share?Chances are you have not yet configured your VMkernel interface on your ESX host, which is required for IP Storage (iSCSI and NFS), as well as for live migration of VMs via VMotion. In this video we discuss the architecture of the VMkernel on an ESX 3.5 host, as well as VMkernel communications on ESX3i Embedded and ESX3i Installable hosts. This video includes a walk-through for the installation of the VMkernel port on an ESX 3.5 U3 host.
