i made this powder in my high school chem lab. we set it off in the auditorium to show off the amount of light produced (roughly 100,000 candlepower). we call it the 'second sun' because it's enough to make the entire auditorium, with no lights turned on, look like daylight. its composed of powdered barium nitrate (the oxidizer in the reaction), sulfur, aluminum, and a bit of vaseline.
