The AƩrotrain was a hovercraft train developed in France from 1965 to 1977. The train was suspended on an aircushion enabling very high speeds, low noise and fuel consumption. The project was abandoned due to lack of funding and the death of the lead engineer Jean Bertin. Six prototypes were tested with various propulsion systems; propeller, gas turbine and electric Linear Induction Motor. The largest being the an 80-passenger car, which established the world speed record for an overland air cushion vehicle on 05/03/1974 with a speed of 417.6 km/h.
