iPhone & ipod Touch Apps - iLightr vs. Zippo Virtual Lighter
iPhone & ipod Touch Apps - iLightr vs. Zippo Virtual Lighter

iLighter will set you back 99 cents to download a digital lighter with crisp and realistic flame animation, a flip top case that opens with the flick of your wrist, and 12 different case options available. And Virtual Zippo is a free app that brings the famous zippo brand lighter to your iPhone. You can choose from a wide variety of Zippo cases in a program that lets you flick your finger or snap your wrist to light up like a pro. Virtual Zippo is free and has the advantage of the Zippo brand name, but iLighter's flame animation is a little crisper and smoother and might be worth the dollar it costs to download... if you really feel like you need to have the best fake lighter available on your iPhone. Both programs are great for putting on when you're at a concert and your favorite band is playing their big love ballad... just don't try to actually light a cigarette with either one of these apps. The iPhone is high tech, but not that high tech. I'm Marc Gittleman for TekieTV.Com. Keep watching for ...

One of the most popular downloads this week was “Spore: Origins,” a minimal version of the critically acclaimed video game “Spore,” which is selling out all over the country. In “Origins,” you can use your iPhone's accelerometer to tilt your strange and unique and self customized creature to safety through a treacherous path. It's not nearly as deep as the full version of “Spore,” but very few games are since civilizations. But “Origins” is fun, has a great control scheme that lets you use the touchscreen to stretch and squeeze your customizable creature, and, at $9.99, worth the download. Stick around for more of the most popular downloads from the App store. I'm Marc Gittleman from Hard Drive 911 for TekieTV.Com. I'm Marc Gittleman from Hard Drive 911 for TekieTV.Com, your best source for technology news and technology reviews. We've been taking a look at the most popular downloads from the iPhone App store, and some of these applications are more gimmicky than others. Take, for example, the inexplicably popular “Koi Pond” app... it's a pretty app that turns your iPhone screen into a serene pond which beautiful Koi fish swim around in. The iPhone's touchscreen technology allows you to run your hands through the surface of the water and cause the fish to scatter, or just stare at them blankly as they swim around your screen. The app is designed to relax you after a stressful day at work, and it's undeniably pretty to look at. But is it worth the money? “Koi Pond” is only 99 cents, but even at less than a dollar, it might be too much for an app you'll probably get bored with within a half hour of downloading it. But what do I know? “Koi Pond” was the third most popular paid ...
