It takes place on the day of the invasion. It follows the character of the crusader who is a skrull that has chosen to betray his people and live his life as a human. It is an interesting back story for the character and a pretty compelling look at the decision of where to put his loyalty but like most of the Secret Invasion tie ins it is pretty insignificant. They also make it look in the end of the book that the earthlings are starting to win the fight when we know from the other books that the opposite was true and Nick Fury had to show up and get a bunch of people out of there to regroup. The only cross over that I’ve found to be worth while and really necessary to the story is the New Avengers book because it actually has a unique story that is moving forward. So this book was just as useless and irrelevant as last week’s Mighty Avengers book but at least this was more interesting. The one thing that I have liked most of all about this series was how deep the story went into marvel continuity so I do appreciate this story but think that it belonged somewhere else. I did enjoy seeing how the skrulls dealt with the House of M but I think Marvel is doing itself and its readers a disservice by making so many Secret Invasion tie ins with out them relating to the story itself. We don’t need all of this. The whole secret invasion story should have been told within the two avengers titles and this stuff should have been made available in outside stories. They’ve drawn it out too long and not had enough payoff outside of the core story. I’m just ready for this story ...

This book is completely pointless. There is absolutely no reason to waste your money on this book. It has no consequence on the Secret invasion title and is not even that entertaining. It follows Fury’s recruits through a little bit of training and takes them up to the time of the actual invasion of New York. Who cares? Maybe a month ago this story may have been more relevant and meaningful but not now. Don’t waste your time on this book I’m not even going to waste any more of your time on this review. This is the first of these invasion titles that I really liked. Sure it’s been interesting to see how everyone that has been replaced was captured but it’s not really necessary and they have been dragged out way to long. This one however gives us a glimpse of what it’s been like for the skrulls that have put into the human bodies. They have been fused with their memories and life experiences and that has to have some effect on them. Can you imagine sharing a brain with your enemies and still trying to maintain the hatred that is necessary to want to exterminate them? They say that understanding is the path to peace and there be no quicker way to understanding than living as your enemy and seeing the world through their eyes and mind. Wow this was a good issue. So this issue has been going back to give us insight on what the Skrulls are doing and how they managed to do it. This issue tells us where it all began. It starts out with an illuminati meeting skrull made clones, which makes me wonder if any of the illuminati series was actually the earth heroes or if it was just clones, and one of the Skrulls realized that Reed Richards alone held the key to the human’s destruction. This makes a couple of things very clear. One, why the skrulls kept Reed alive after capturing him and why they needed to get into his brain so badly in the last issue of the Secret Invasion Title.
