The Internet isn’t already a terrible place, so the good folks at Facebook have decided, after years of demand to implement a “dislike” button. It is really happening!
For all of you too lazy to write out your dickish thoughts with your real name proudly displayed next to them, now you will simply be able to click “dislike.” This will come in super handy when the new Nickelback single is released, but may prove awkward when a couple announces the birth of their child and gets 37 dislikes at the thought of them reproducing.
Facebook users have long petitioned for a “dislike” button and today during a Q&A conference call founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed they were making it happen. While Zuckerberg doesn’t want to turn Facebook into a Reddit like system of up voting and down voting, he thinks it will be a positive development, saying;
“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”
Before, when tragic news was shared such as the death of a beloved celebrity, users would only have the option to “like” the post. Now they will be able to show their dislike of a news story.
Zuckerberg adds: "What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment."
Haha, Zuckerberg thinks people on the Internet have empathy! Do you realize the amount of relationships, businesses and nations that will end when this is implemented? Then again, YouTube has had thumbs up and down for years and nobody cares. What do I know? Dislike.
