‘Zoolander 2’ Is Coming And Here’s Everything We Know About It So Far

Get ready for some more Blue Steel, folks!

Justin Theroux, who co-wrote Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller, confirmed that we are inches away from getting a sequel (written by Theroux and Stiller) to the 2001 comedy. If you don’t remember, Theroux, who is the star of HBO’s The Leftovers, also played the Evil D.J. and was asked to direct Zoolander’s sequel until scheduling conficts determined that Ben Stiller would be the more appropriate choice. Awesome.

Theroux as the Evil D.J.

And if that news isn’t enough to get Zoolander fans interested, Will Ferrell has confirmed that he would be returning as Mugatu, but  didn’t say whether it’s as the film’s main villain or simply as cameo. Ferrell told JoBlo.com, “We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it.”

Okay, great, good, but what the hell is it about? Well, we don’t know yet. But the script is almost ready.

In December, Ben Stiller mentioned that the production had been delayed due to some script tightening.

“There’s a script we like, but I don’t want to force it, because people who love that movie really love it, so I want to make sure we do the sequel the right way,” Stiller explained. “Mike Myers did it well with the Austin Powers movies — they were all funny, and very of their time. And Zoolander is of its time, too, so it’s about how we could bring it up to date, to the present day.”

It’s comforting to hear Stiller make this comment considering how hungry we all were for an Anchorman 2, and even though it took ten years, the script was clearly sub-par to the original film. So if that thing needs more time to marinate, so be it.

Theroux, added, “We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.”

So are you excited for a Zoolander 2?? At least we know it can’t any worse than Anchorman 2.
