Lately, the Disney princesses have been turned into many things. We even did a piece to make them look pregnant! But artist Saint Hoax decided to take the princesses into less humorous territory by showing them beaten up to illustrate the effects of domestic violence. Yeesh.
Hoax is labeling the new look as "an awareness campaign targeting any girl / woman who has been subject to domestic violence. The aim of the poster series is to encourage victims to report their cases in order for the authorities to prevent it from happening again." Can't blame her for taking a more realistic approach.
Although it seems a little hokey at first, the point is clear with the tagline "When did he stop treating you like a princess. It's never too late to put an end to it."
Oddly enough, Belle married a beast and she turned out fine. But seriously, we definitely get the point now and hope this finds people it may really speak to. Regardless, It's certainly the flip side to another artist's version of the princesses turned into Miley Cyrus.
Or the version with Disney princesses turning into zombies.
Or as Game of Thrones characters.
So this dose of reality definitely isn't a bad thing at all, but certainly speaks to a specific, more limited audience beyond the nerd culture. I for one can't wait for the Disney princesses conspiracy theory set.
