Ward Shelley and Alex Schweder are a couple of performance artists with a pretty great sense of humor. For 10 days under the title "In Orbit", they're living in a gigantic hamster wheel at The Boiler, the Pierogi gallery's performance space in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
This crazy person carnival ride made of wood and metal stands 25 feet tall and is equipped with a shower with a sliding curtain to keep those art folks from taking a lascivious peak.
David Blaine only wishes he had something this cozy.
The wheel is also equipped with a chemical toilet, kitchen, chairs and narrow beds in separate living arrangements with one living on the top of the wheel, and another living in the middle. In order to move around their quarters, each has to have the aid of the other to rotate the wheel. When asked what the point of this exhibit was, they said "We all have to work together to get through the daily grind."
Personally, I think this is just an excuse for these two to not have to go to work, so if you'll excuse me, I have to start my OWN art exhibit titled "The Work Nap".
