An example of PC-culture run amok, or a genuinely gross video displaying sexual abuse?
Demi Moore, known for her roles in Ghost and A Few Good Men, would be the last person I would guess who’d get caught up in the current sex abuse scandals rocking Hollywood (aside from Tom Hanks, of course – the day that happens is the day we’re officially all doomed) – and yet here we are, talking about the time Demi Moore locked lips with her 15-year-old General Hospital co-star on his birthday:
(The first kiss is at 1:22, the second at 1:49 and the third at 4:36.)
Shot in 1982, the video shows Moore, then 19, kissing 15-year-old Philip Tanzini. She goes on to profess her “love” to Philip, saying “I love him dearly. He’s one of my most favorite people…I love Philip and he’s the only one I love.” Philip then tells the camera that they’re going to get married, and asks the people around him not to tell Demi’s then-husband. “I can’t wait,” Demi says. “He [Philip] really is truly terrific. He is, and I love him because he keeps me happy.”
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the video. It’s a kiss. So what? There’s nothing sexual there and she’s clearly a little buzzed. But on the other hand, if this was Bruce Willis kissing the kid on the mouth…that’s gross. Yes, I recognize the double standard here – I can’t help it. I’m sorry. One YouTube commenter put it best:
So let’s get this straight; We have an epidemic of old celebrities…being called pedophiles and rapists for touching 15 year old girls 30+ years ago, and some are now facing jail and being placed on the sex offender’s register.
We have Bill Cosby, targeted by women after a quick buck and being defamed and villified as a rapist. And then here we have actual video evidence of Demi Moore being ‘indecent’ with a 15 year old boy, and people are calling him lucky?!
If a 19 year old boy were to snog a 15 year old girl he’d have the f*cking book thrown at him, the parents would cry murder and the feminists would have a field day.
First of all, Bill Cosby is not a good example because even if a few of his accusers were after money, the majority of them were legitimate – but aside from that, the statement is correct: if people were switched and Demi Moore was swapped out with a 19-year-old guy, people would be losing their shit.
But on the OTHER hand, there’s also some personal responsibility to be had in your personal interpretation. Demi Moore is clearly not molesting the kid, and he’s flattered at the kisses he gets. If the kid were freaking out and having a meltdown, that’s another story – she’s also not trying to fondle his junk, and nothing more happens aside from a long mouth kiss. Kissing on the mouth is seen as fairly normal in Europe, yet in America we can’t help but be a bunch of prudes. Is it fair that older women can kiss children yet men can’t without being labelled pedophiles? No, but that’s the world we live in, and it’s probably not going to change anytime soon.
To me, this video is a big “nothingburger” – just another example of PC-culture run amok.
What do you think? Is Demi Moore out of line here, or is the SJW crowd blowing this out of proportion?
