If you were a child of the 80's and 90's, you certainly remember how terrifying the show Unsolved Mysteries really was. Hosted by Robert Stack, the series showcased real unsolved cases depicting kidnappings, murder and even UFO abductions. Sometimes the mysteries would later be solved with Stack giving the audience an update on the case but some would become just a horrifying memory. No, for real, some of their stories told through re-enactments could often be unsettling.
Personally, I thought the more terrifying stories were their ghost story episodes. So long a good night's sleep!
NBC had started the program in 1987, which ran until 2010. Robert Stack hosted the program until 2002 with other hosts taking over until the end of the run. At first, you were only able to watch Unsolved Mysteries by buying their various DVD collections but soon you'll be able to watch all of the Unsolved Mysteries you can handle without dusting off your DVD player.
FilmRise snagged the rights to the show and are in negotiations to stream the program across many platforms like Netflix and Hulu. They haven't disclosed which platforms exactly but we're willing to bet Netflix can fork over a few thousand to please fans.
“We’re pleased to be releasing this celebrated series to a large audience of fans both old and new,” said Danny Fisher, CEO of FilmRise. “Unsolved Mysteries is an American tradition that FilmRise is excited to preserve.”
Unfortunately we don't know when exactly one will be able to stream the episodes, so for the time being, here's the show's theme song which is just as terrifying to hear in the middle of the day as it was in your living room in the middle of the night. All we could find was this real shitty copy of it. Looking forward to streaming a more high quality soon!
