The past few years have seen a rise in college campuses pandering to the tender little snowflakes that millennials have become. Just this year students at Emory University declared that pro “Trump 2016” chalk written on their campus had violated their “safe space” and was thus a hate crime.
What is worse college administrations are tolerating and even encouraging this un-American anti freedom of expression in the name of political correctness. However letters sent out to the incoming class of 2020 from the University of Chicago are basically saying enough is enough. Administrators, possibly not wanting to face a forced resignation over a mislabeled gluten free tofu parfait in the cafeteria or a lack or a gender free pronouns – got out ahead of the outrage machine and told new students to shove their trigger warnings and safe spaces up their collective asses with a big AMERICA FUCK YEAH, saying:
“Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so called ‘trigger warnings,’ we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual ‘safe spaces’ where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own.”
Basically the letter says; congratulations you have been accepted to college. Now buck up cupcake, and put your big boy pants on. You’re in the real world now! You have to earn real grades. Human beings suck. Hard. Before you were born there were actual, real Nazis to deal with. So your “trigger warnings” aren’t going to help when ISIS has an actual gun with a trigger pointed at your head. I’m paraphrasing here.
Chicago: not a safe space.
“Trigger warnings” include topics that might offend or make a student feel uncomfortable including discussing racism, sexism, heterosexism, cissexism, ableism, and “other issues of privilege and oppression.” This has led to college campuses canceling guest speakers, mostly of the conservative side of politics, when students protest. In the past speakers like George Will, Ann Coulter, and Condoleezza Rice have had their invitations to colleges canceled. If you disagree with those people, what happened to having a civil debate?
Wow, U of Chicago going full Bob Jones University, right? However, you might be interested to know that the University of Chicago is where this right wing nut job, anti-politically correct crusader and crusher of safe spaces was a law professor and is now having his presidential library built. But he seems to agree! WTF? Just watch:
It sounds like The University of Chicago is trying to take their campus back. You can read the full letter sent to students below. Do you think they went far enough or will they face huge backlash over this letter?
