The TSA has started celebrating the holidays early by taking a toy away from a child and making him cry. They sure do love taking kids toys away, don’t they?
The Zilka family had just finished a trip to Disney World. They were all smiles and on a magical high until they went through security at the airport. Things got real… maybe too real. The TSA confiscated a Buzz Lightyear “flip grip” toy that was given to 5-year-old Levi Zilka from his uncle. It was a fun souvenir from his first trip to Disney World, but TSA officials at Fort Lauderdale International Airport made his magical trip a nightmare by taking it away from him because it resembled a gun.
“Once he realized what was happening and they weren’t giving his toy back, he immediately starts bawling, just tears streaming down his face,” Levi’s father, David told CBS. “It was all I could do not to break down with him in that moment.”
TSA agents said they could put the toy in checked luggage, but the family only had carry-ons. To add insult to injury, the agents ended up throwing the tow in the trash. Even though there is heightened security due to the recent of events in Paris, confiscating a brightly colored toy that “looks” like a gun from a 5-year-old may be taking it a tad bit too far. Mr. Zilka thinks his son was treated unfairly and has since filed a complaint.
Congratulations TSA agents of Fort Lauderdale International Airport. You officially saved the world from a crying 5-year-old boy and his candy-colored toy that looks more like a “pick up and reach tool” than a gun.
