Tesla Working On Brain Implants To Connect Man And Machine

For Today in Robot Apocalypse we go to Twitter. That is where famed entrepreneur and would-be protagonist in an Isaac Asimov science fiction novel, Elon Musk sent the Internet into wild speculation this week. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO replied to a question about when he was launching a brain – computer connecting neural lace with this:

For decades scientists have speculated that the next stage of human evolution might not be completely biological, but a merging of man and machine.  Upgrade your brain with some computer chips and become a cyborg! It seems these cyberpunk fantasies may finally become a reality. Musk has commented on his hope for this technology before by stating how it could help humanity avoid a Terminator-like situation, if WE are the machines.

“I think if we can effectively merge with AI, like improving the neural link between the cortex and your digital extension of yourself, which already exists but just has a bandwidth issue, then effectively, you become an AI-human symbiote. We don't have to worry about some evil dictator AI, because we are the AI collectively. That seems like the best outcome I can think of.”

So would you interface your brain with a computer? This could lead to a cool Robocop situation where you have the strength of a machine and the brain power of a computer. However it may lead to connecting Facebook into your mind and getting LIKES for your private sick thoughts.
