‘Spaceballs 2’ Teaser Posters Have Been Spotted In New York

We reported a potential Spaceballs 2 happening literally a year ago after Mel Brooks made mention of it on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast…and the internet went nuts. Now however, someone has spotted Spaceballs: The Search For More Money teaser posters in a New York subway in lower Manhattan and they look pretty legit.

Sure, anyone could whip up a Spaceballs sequel poster design mocking the melted Vader helmet from The Force Awakens…but that makes less sense than that person just selling prints of their poster for nostalgia’s sake (the sequel’s subtitle itself has been said by creator Mel Brooks for years). Plus, the more interesting part is the poster has the official MGM logo. Something someone wouldn’t be able to do legally if it were just made for funsies.

The MGM logo in the bottom right corner.

There’s a big part of me that truly hopes MGM, Brooks and whomever else might be involved (I’m looking at you Rick Moranis) actually created a Spaceballs 2 and are just now starting to get the word out. You know, how marketing used to be when the first time you heard of a movie was when you saw the damn poster. So maybe Brooks took a few notes from The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams himself on how to market a movie and keep it fresh. Otherwise, worst case scenario, these cool posters hanging in a subway was just a fun prank to pull.
