First Time Flier Decides To Open Emergency Exit for Air

Now this is a story all about how some traveler’s lives got flipped, turned upside down.  I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you all about the Chinese plane passenger who opened a window to get fresh air.

Probably lots of people in the world haven’t been on a plane before, and that’s just fine.  Air travel isn’t something most of us engage in on a regular basis, but even if you’ve never been on a plane, hopefully you’re at least familiar with the idea of a plane.  It’s this idea of a plane you should always have in your head, the basic understanding of aerodynamics, principles of flight and engineering, and various safety protocols that you really need.  And it doesn’t need to be a complicated level, just what your average kid understands about those things.  What we’re trying to say is, if you’re on a plane you should know not to open the windows.

Now you and I might be inclined to think “wait, you can’t even open a window on a plane” and that’s 99.9% correct.  You can’t because none of the windows open.  But the emergency exits do.  And here again you need to be able to have a basic understanding of what that means.  For instance, it’d be super helpful if you at least had a passing familiarity with the word emergency.  If you understood you only use emergency things in an actual emergency, that’d be super helpful.

Unfortunately for passengers on a Xiamen Airlines flight in China, a first time passenger joined them on their domestic flight and felt the plane was a little stuffy.  He popped open the emergency exit while the plane was still on the runway in an effort to get some fresh air.  Thankfully for all involved he didn’t get the urge mid flight.

Amazingly the man was allowed to stay on the plane after the exist was re-secured and the inflatable emergency slide was packed away again, since all of that stuff comes rolling out when someone declares an emergency on a plane. He won’t even face any fines because this airline does not punish people for being complete and utter morons.

For what it’s worth, plane doors open inward for a specific reason.  That reason deals with air pressure and that would, generally speaking, prevent this from actually happening if the plane was in flight.  In fact, this man stumbled stupidly into the only way his stupidity could actually come to fruition.  Good for him!
