Disney is not the only company that has the monopoly on child stars; nowadays, any kid that doesn’t have a squeaky clean look can try their luck at stardom by working on a Nickelodeon show. As another network geared toward kids and tweens, Nickelodeon has churned out its own list of Nickelodeon girls who became hot later in life. They may not all have continued their careers or as in Amanda Bynes’ case, held on to their sanity, but the following list did make a nice transition from being a cute girl to being a hot young woman.

We might as well start with the most infamous. Amanda was one of Nickelodeon’s biggest stars in the late ’90s, appearing on All That (1996-2002) and Figure It Out (1997-99) as a cast member. She then got her own sketch comedy show, The Amanda Show in 1999 that lasted until 2002. Amanda transitioned into doing movies but after 10 films, she announced her retirement in 2010. Reports started surfacing that Amanda was suffering from mental illness and thus began a series of bizarre, career ending behavior including DUI, alleged drug addition, driving with a suspended license and other assorted legal issues.
Before she started licking unsuspecting donuts and stating that she hated people, singer/actress Ariana Grande got her start on the Nick show, Victorious (2010-12) playing Cat Valentine before starring in her own spin-off series, Sam & Cat. The show ended in 2014 and Ariana began to focused solely on her music career.
Even though she’s the daughter of a rock star, Lily Collins elected to follow her father, Phil Collin’s acting DNA instead of his musical ones. She appeared in 2000 on Nick News With Linda Ellerbee: Kids Pick the President and served as hostess at other Nickelodeon events such as the Kids’ Choice Awards Orange Carpet Pre-show in 2009. Lily now acts in feature films.
Canadian Elisha Cuthbert started her career in 1997 hosting Popular Mechanics for Kids, a Canadian children’s television series before appearing in Nick’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1999-2000) as Megan, one of the group of ghost story-telling teens. Elisha jumped to network TV playing Jack Bauer’s daughter in the Fox drama, 24 and had a regular role in the ABC comedy, Happy Endings which ran from 2011 to 2013. A big hockey fan, she’s married to hockey player Dion Phaneuf of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Melissa Joan Hart is one of Nick’s first stars playing Clarissa Darling, in the comedy series, Clarissa Explains It All. The show was a big success and ran from 1991 to 1994. Melissa went off to college but then was sucked back to the limelight in a 7 year run on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, a TV series that first premiered on ABC before moving to the WB. Melissa ventured into directing as well as acting in feature films before returning to TV in 2010, co-starring with Joey Lawrence in an ABC show, Melissa and Joey.
Before starring in Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP, Keke was already known for her work as the lead in the film, Akeelah and the Bee. On top of that, she had already recorded a debut album, So Uncool, released in 2007. Keke played teen True Jackson who headed up the kid’s department at a fashion company from 2000-12. At the time she was the fourth highest-paid child star on television earning $20,000 per episode. After the show ended, Keke went on to roles in Showtime’s Masters of Sex and was first black woman to star as Cinderella on Broadway, making her debut in September 2014.
This actress/singer started acting when she was 10 years old and when she was 12, she was cast as Lola Martinez in Nick’s Zoey 101. Victoria appeared on several other Nick shows until she was cast as the lead in her own Nick show, Victorious where she played Tori Vega, a student at the Hollywood Arts High School. Victoria recorded several songs for the show and continues to work on a musical career in between acting. She starred in a successful Nickelodeon TV movie, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf and in 2012, she was in the feature Halloween comedy film, Fun Size. Her debut album, Shake is slated for release some time in 2015.
A Nickelodeon veteran, Jennette McCurdy became famous as Sam Puckett on the Nick sitcom, iCarly and its spin-off show, Sam & Cat. Throughout her career, Jennette has also made guest appearances in various other Nick shows in addition to a few network series. On March 10, 2009, Jennette released her first single, “So Close.” Samples of select songs from her debut country album were released online on April 16, 2010 so fans could choose their favorites. Jennette was involved in a sexy photo scandal when in In March 2014, several personal pictures of Jennette was leaked online. She said the only person that could have done it was NBA player Andre Drummond whom she dated for a short time in September 2013 but Drummond denies being responsible.
