If I say Morgan Freeman escaped death this weekend, well, that wouldn't be a stretch. Having to repeatedly land his personal plane multiple times because it began to malfunction, Freeman finally opted to take a different plane. Oh, and that second plane? He flew that one too.
On his way to the Toronto Film Festival premiere of Ruth & Alex for which Freeman serves as star and producer, the Oscar-Winner told the red carpet press that "The slats would not retract in the air". There's something that much cooler about a story when adding "in the air" at the end of any sentence. "On the ground they were fine, but in the air they were a problem. We were about 10 minutes in the air trying to get them to retract but they didn't so we went back and landed," he told the Hollywood Reporter.
"We cycled them again, and took off, they still didn't work, so we landed. Cycled them again, and took off, they still didn't work so we went back. Had to put the plane away and take out the other plane," he added. Even after four separate attempts, Freeman said he felt that he was never in any danger. One failed attempt would do me in, but Freeman went through it four times. Cool as a cucumber that guy.
Freeman, who is no stranger to planes, served in the US Air Force and has had his pilot's license for the last 12 years. After arriving 90 minutes late to the premiere, Freeman hit the red carpet looking like nothing ever happened. Awesome. hopefully some kind canadian hooked him up with a relaxing victory poutine.
Ruth & Alex costars Diane Keaton, so your mom will probably want to see it, and has yet to announce a release date.
