Anywhere from 10 to 15 people are reported dead at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. As many as 20 are reported injured. The shooter is also reportedly detained.
As per usual, details will come in. The correct number of dead. The correct number of injured. The identity of the shooter.
And tonight, shows on CNN and FOX will talk about gun control. The Presidential candidates will support it or be opposed. They’ll talk about banning guns or keeping them free for all. People will support or denounce the NRA. People will talk about funding for mental health issues. It will be the same crap you have heard before. How many times now? For how many years.
Whatever you think when you hear about a mass shooting, whatever you’re used to hearing, whatever arguments and discussions and plans we have are all failures and bullshit. Because it keeps happening. Because all we do is talk.
We won’t tell you the identity of the shooter even when we know it because we don’t care. We won’t tell you why he says he did it because you shouldn’t care. People died again. Random people who didn’t deserve it. It happened today just like all those times over the last 20 or so years. Like it will happen again. And again. Until someone finally does something.
