This Disturbing Video Could Be The Key To Finding Teen Kidnapped Seven Years Ago

A creepy video that has been circulating the internet for the last seven years is now part of an FBI investigation into the whereabouts of a teenaged girl that has been missing since 2009. The clip, entitled “Hi Walter! I got a new gf today!” shows a man who calls himself Patrick bragging about meeting a girl at the mall – only to reveal that he has kidnapped the girl and tied her up in his basement.

Although the footage, which you can watch above, has been around for nearly a decade and largely considered a hoax, it began to go viral after getting featured on sites like Reddit and Imgur, where several users raised concerns that it was actually real. Imgur user TheGeminiTIGER posted the results of his own analysis into the video and his findings are utterly horrifying if even a fraction are true.

At the heart of the issue is the 2009 disappearance of 15-year-old Kayla Berg from Antigo, Wisconsin. She was last seen in Wausau, Wisconsin, on August 11 – precisely two months before the original Walter video was posted on YouTube. Berg and a friend had been joyriding when she asked at around 9:00 pm to be dropped off at a condemned house situated in a remote part of Wausau.

Since she did not have a cell phone, she could not have contacted anybody to pick her up, so she presumably began walking toward town. That is potentially when Patrick could have abducted her. Furthermore, Berg’s friend reported that she was wearing a red spaghetti-strap top and blue jeans when she was dropped off, which seems to be what the girl in the video is wearing.

The video itself also contains clues that hint at a real kidnapping situation. The door and frame seem to contain splotches of blood, which might indicate a struggle broke out between Patrick and the girl. Patrick seems to have left his keys inside of a hasp lock on the door, a type of lock that is usually used as an additional layer of security and not as a primary lock. The visible light switch is in the off-position even though there is a light source, suggesting that it controls the light in the “cell.”

As for the identity of “Walter,” some have pointed to Walter E. Ellis, also known as the Milwaukee North Side Strangler. He was arrested on September 7, 2009 – less than a month after Berg went missing – and his heinous crimes may have sparked Patrick to attempt a copycat spree.

All of the evidence seems to have proven sufficient for authorities to look into the case, as the video was taken down from YouTube and Antigo police have begun investigating. Police Chief Eric Roller noted that the process of finding Patrick could prove difficult.

“We do have to look at every single one so it is time consuming but you know we’re going to be thorough and make sure that every tip we do get we will follow up on, and either eliminate that person or that subject as the one that’s in the video,” Roller told WSAW.

The FBI has lent its aid to the Antigo Police Department, calling on local residents to provide any and all information they have as to Patrick’s real identity. Investigation Discovery has also gotten involved, sending producers to Antigo in order to cover Berg’s disappearance.

Berg’s mother, Hope Sprenger, expressed her belief that the girl in the video is her daughter. “[It] sounded like her, looked like her, it gave me chills,” Sprenger told WAOW. “Disturbing. It made me sick to my stomach. The clothing could be a big possibility. We do believe she was wearing that type of shirt, we know she had jeans.”

On Facebook, Sprenger posts pictures of Berg every few months, with captions like, “Thinking of You.” Her introduction simply reads: “I am the mother of missing Kayla May Berg, 8-11-2009, from Antigo, WI. I just want answers…”

The Missing and Forgotten Facebook page, which publicizes the cases of missing Wisconsin children, posted the following: “If you have information related to the Video or information on Kayla Berg please Contact Antigo Police Department (715)-627-6411 Or Langlade County Crime Stoppers (715) 627-NAIL (6245)!”
