Greatest Lesbian Scenes

WHAT ARE THE GREATEST LESBIAN SCENES IN MOVIES AND TV?

Two of the most vital art forms of the 21st century are movies and television, but let’s be honest, you aren’t interested in art, are you? You just want to see some hot lesbian action, but not in the context of pornography, which for some reason you’re not interested in at this juncture. Maybe it’s because you’re looking for a loophole in your porn addiction rehab regimen, or maybe you’re looking for some lesbian sex you can watch with your girlfriend guilt-free. Whatever your reasons, I’ve done exhaustive research on the subject of lesbian sex in TV and movies, and will give you the best of the best starting right now.

The somewhat poor quality of the video above is unfortunate, but the point is you can get at least one pretty good (albeit not very explicit) lesbian scene just by watching The Wire, the most respectable TV-watching pursuit there is in 2015. “What are you watching, honey?,” your wife or girlfriend might ask - “Oh, I’m just watching The Wire.” “Again? I thought you already saw this.” “It has subtleties that stand out on third, fourth, and fifth viewings.” See? You’re totally clear.

I WAS HOPING TO GET A LEAD ON SOME MORE EXPLICIT LESBIAN SEX SCENES IN TV AND MOVIES, CAN YOU HELP ME OUT?

Sure - you should watch The Wire anyway though, it’s great. Luckily, there are plenty of equally respectable arthouse films you can watch, enjoy, be fulfilled by, and still get your lesbian sex fix in a socially acceptable manner. The most obvious source for this kind of entertainment would have to be Blue Is the Warmest Color, the acclaimed, 3-hour lesbian romance that earned all kinds of highbrow awards back in 2013. Its most attention-getting and controversial sequence is the extended sex scene between the two leads - which is definitely too explicit and NSFW for inclusion in a family blog post like this one (about lesbian sex). But you can get a slight idea of what’s in store for you if you watch this great movie in the red band trailer for Blue Is the Warmest Color below (could the MPAA not have made one exception to their color-coding system and made this a blue band trailer, just this once? Seems like a primo marketing opportunity that was missed). Here it is:

Of course, in the arthouse lesbian department, nobody can hold a camera to David Lynch, who conceived of perhaps the greatest lesbian scene of all time in mainstream film (assuming you can call a Lynch movie “mainstream,” which is debatable). It stars Laura Elena Harring and Naomi Watts, and if you watch the whole movie you’ll be full of dread and nightmares by the end - but we’re here just to enjoy the happier times. Here they are:

Mulholland Dr. isn’t the be-all-end-all of great lesbian scenes in movies though. There’s also the 2013 movie Side Effects, starring the luminous Rooney Mara and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Their close scene in the movie doesn’t have any nudity, but it’s a master class in verbal eroticism, and has some pretty good kissing as well. But unlike a lot of Hollywood lesbian scenes, there’s a lot of pertinent plot information in the scene, so let me be perfectly clear about this - if you have not seen Side Effects, don’t watch the clip below. In fact, don’t watch anything until you can see the movie. It’s great! But if you have seen the movie, maybe when it was in theaters a couple of years ago, this will make a good refresher (and will probably make you want to watch the movie again):

No discussion of the greatest lesbian scenes in movies could ever be complete without mentioning Wild Things, and the unforgettable sequence between Denise Richards and Neve Campbell. I could spend a few minutes describing it, but why bother? Great cinema speaks for itself:

DO YOU HAVE A GOOD LESBIAN MOVIE SCENE COMPILATION TO CLOSE US OUT WITH?

I tried to give a good overview of the greatest lesbian scenes in movies and TV, but I’m only one man with so much space, and I can’t include everything. Fortunately, there’s a little thing called “YouTube compilations” that can do the job of 10 bloggers in just a few minutes, and there’s just such a compilation celebrating lesbian sex and make-outs in movies. Enjoy:
