There is something primal in man’s spirit that calls him to fix having been wronged. There are dozens of expressions to sum it up such as  “Don’t Get Mad. Get Even.” Or “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” Or “The best revenge is living well.” The truth is, none of those cliches usually have the power of a good old fashioned practical joke to get back at who done ‘ya wrong.

In the video age, the revenge prank has truly been elevated to an art form. Provided that is, that you dramatically lower your standards as to what an art form is.

WHAT IS A REVENGE PRANK?

A revenge prank is a way to get back at someone, not by violence, blackmail or the like but by pulling a comedic fast one on them.  If the pen is mightier than the sword, perhaps the prank is mightier than the pen and the sword put together. If not, it sure has the potential to be funnier.

A truly great revenge prank often takes a lot of time, effort and sometimes even a team of pranksters to pull off. In this revenge prank, a guy takes revenge on his younger brother by turning his room into one more fitting for a little girl. The revenge is for having altered his facebook page, and this is definitely a case of “he who laughs last, laughs best.”

Some of the best revenge pranks aren’t to get “revenge” in the typical sense of having really been harmed, but rather are in response to a prank already having been pulled. This video is a response to a guy having been pranked by his girlfriend into thinking she cheated on him. He decides to give her a taste of her own medicine.

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON FORMS OF REVENGE  PRANKS?

As a disproportionate amount of pranks in general are pulled by guys, one of the most common kinds of revenge prank is one on a girlfriend or ex-girlfriend. In this classic, the dude offers his version of payback. It’s not exactly the most clever or original of all time, but it does seem to serve its purpose.

This funny video is the revenge of the guy who ate a pizza stuffed with hair. This one definitely took a lot of work to pull off, but the results seem worth the trouble. So, kick back and enjoy the appropriately named “Hairy Pizza Prank Revenge.”

CAN GIRLS PULL REVENGE PRANKS AS WELL AS GUYS?

The answer to that one is a classic “hell yeah they can.” The saying that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned is right on point and often very true in the world of revenge pranks.

A very common revenge prank that scorned women have been known to pull involves crashing into the dude’s car. Technically, this isn’t a revenge prank as much as it is a serious crime that is less funny and more dangerous. Then again, who are we to judge?

This video stars a chick who has been pranked before, and decides to get revenge as best she can. It is aptly titled  “Hot Chick Gets Nutshot Revenge.”

WHAT ARE COMMON PLACES REVENGE PRANKS TAKE PLACE?

For various reasons, the office place is a very typical location for a revenge prank. Maybe it’s due to continual interactions in close quarters, maybe it’s due to boredom in the workplace, or maybe it’s just because that dude sitting in the other cubicle is a world class butthead. For whatever reason, there have been loads of classic revenge pranks at work.

This video below is somewhat of a guide to building a workplace revenge prank. We see the guy buying all the items necessary and literally putting the whole thing together.

Sometimes a classic office revenge prank involves a little bit of extra trickery. This silly piece details why the chair of the boss keeps breaking. What exactly the revenge is for is uncertain. It may just be “because he’s fat” as the guy says. Let’s be serious though for a moment. Is being fat a good reason to take revenge on someone? Well, duh, of course not. Then again, this revenge prank is funny enough to allow for not having to be serious for a heck of a long time.

As anyone who has ever worked at a restaurant can attest, employees can get a bit crazy in the kitchen. Take a peek at a dishwasher getting his revenge on the cook. Let’s hope they cleaned everything up before the customers arrived.

WHY DO SO MANY REVENGE PRANKS TAKE PLACE IN DORMS?

Young college kids, away from home for the first time, shoved into tiny spaces like sardines. Toss in too much homework, too much beer, and the fact that they may be nitwits to start with and we may be on to the answer as to why the dorm is such a hotbed of revenge pranks.

In this next video, a drunken frat boy is given a makeover as revenge for being passed out once too often or at least for not having flushed the toilet for the umpteenth time.

WHY DO SO MANY REVENGE PRANKS INCLUDE THE SCREAM MASK?

For whatever reason, countless revenge pranks involve people popping out wearing the mask from the Scream movie series. It usually seems to work, which must mean that the mask is genuinely frightening in the right context. Either that or you remember that David Arquette was in those movies, and then you remember he was married to Courtney Cox, and then you remember how scared you are of admitting that you still watch old “Friends” reruns. Either way, the internet is full of revenge pranks with that mask. This one is pretty hysterical.

IF A REVENGE PRANK GOES WRONG AND THE COPS ARREST YOU FOR IT, CAN YOU USE “IT WAS SO FUNNY AT THE TIME” AS A VALID LEGAL EXCUSE?

Of course not. What are you, an idiot?
