Prepare to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in a DC comic adaption (finally) as...
Johnson has been hinting at who he'll be playing in the DC comics movie universe of Shazam! for years, finally sharing the outcome today. It really came down to two possibilities: Black Adam, Shazam's arch-nemesis or Shazam. For my money, I was really hoping for Johnson to take on the gold and red suit, but I suppose it'll be cool to see him play a bad guy in one of these things.
What could've been.
For those of you who aren't totally familiar with Black Adam (and unless you read comics, why would you be), he was a corrupted, ancient Egyptian predecessor of Shazam, who fought his way to modern times to challenge the hero.
Realistically, I'm sure he'd rather sign on for one possible DC movie than the telephone book sized contract that would come with playing the comic's hero. He's probably a little over playing the same character over and over again for 20 films.
DC Comics wrote this about the character: Power corrupts. It's a trial many heroes have had to face. But no one exemplifies this more than Black Adam—a champion turned villain whose quest for dominance over all magic drives him to destroy anything that stands in his path.
Black Adam's powers are super strength, flight, invulnerability, super speed, superhuman hearing, healing factor, intelligence, magic. He first appeared in Marvel Family #1 in 1945.
Long story short, this should be pretty cool.
