Teen Hit With Felony Charge For Putting Soda In His Water Cup At McDonald's

An Arkansas teenager is facing a felony charge for filling his McDonald's water cup with a soft drink. Cody Morris, 18, and his two friends ordered three waters at the fast food restaurant's drive-thru window and then went inside the restaurant to fill the cups with soda, but when the branch manager realized what was happening, he called the police.

The teens noticed that they had been caught and Morris' two friends decided to return their drinks in order to avoid trouble. Morris, however, decided to make a run for it. He hopped in his car and tried to drive away, and when the manager tried to block him by standing behind his car, Morris hit him twice.

Morris was later found parked at a nearby bowling alley, where he was taken into custody and slapped with a felony robbery charge. He was later released on a $2,500 bond.

Under Arkansas law, theft of property – even something as cheap as a McDonald's drink, which typically costs one dollar – can be punished as a Class B Felony Theft if the offense involves threat of serious bodily injury. Such a conviction would carry a prison sentence from five to 20 years and a fine of up to $15,000.
