9 Times Bill Murray Was Caught Being Awesome!

Todd-Spence by Todd-Spence on May. 28, 2014

We're sure by now you've heard of the encounter a bachelor party had with living legend Bill Murray at a steakhouse in Charleston, South Carolina, but just in case you haven't actually seen the amazingness with your own eyes, here you go!

Good Lord, Bill Murray is awesome (and what great advice to a bunch of young guys who could probably use the words of wisdom).  But as we all know, this isn't the first time BM has done something randomly awesome in his life.  So here's a solid top 9 if you will of Murray's finest moments that have assured his position as coolest man ever.

#9: BILL MURRAY PAYS TRIBUTE TO HAROLD RAMIS AT THE 86TH ACADEMY AWARDS

An In Memoriam moment for legendary comedy actor/writer (and Murray friend) was sure to happen, but that just isn't enough.  Murray took a moment from reading the Best Cinematography awards to give his late friend a shoutout.  Awesome and extremely classy.

#8: BILL MURRAY CRASHES A KARAOKE ROOM

What would you do if Bill Murray crashed your karaoke party and actually hung out with you?  In New York at Karaoke One 7, that moment happened.  Murray sung the Elvis tune "Marie's The Name" and passed around his own booze, some French liqueur made by monks.  Awesome.

#7: BILL MURRAY SPONTANEOUSLY BARTENDS AT 2010 SXSW

Murray decided to take a break from the South By Southwest festivities and bartend at the Shangri-La in Austin, Texas.  And if that's not great enough, no matter what anyone ordered he would pour them a shot a tequila every single time.  Apparently once the crowd got a little too heavy, he left.  But returned with a treat.  The Wu-Tang Clan.  Awesome!

#6: BILL MURRAY RIDING A SPEEDBOAT WITH HUNTER S. THOMPSON

Before Johnny Depp played legendary writer Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, there was Bill Murray in Where The Buffalo Roam.  And much like Thompson's relationship with Depp, Murray and Thompson became fast friends often seen hanging out together and running amok in general.  There's in fact a story about how Thompson and Murray were having an arguement about who could "out Houdini" the other when Thompson tied Murray to a chair and threw him into a swimming pool.  Murray of course survived to spread more awesomeness throughout the years.

#5: THAT ONE TIME PEOPLE MADE UP THEIR OWN DELUSION THAT HE'LL CRASH THEIR PARTY

You know you're awesome when out of nowhere a rumor is started that if you have a party on one of the scheduled dates, Bill Murray will appear like something out of a ghost story.  Notorious for crashing parties anyway, I guess the odds that it could happen are within the realm of reason, but it turned out this information was false.  Unfortunately.  Not to say he didn't crash some party somewhere during this time frame.

In this case, Murray didn't even need to show up to prove how awesome he is.

#4: BILL MURRAY RANDOMLY SHOWS UP TO PLAY KICKBALL WITH STRANGERS

Around 2PM in New York, a group of friends were playing kickball when Murray just randomly showed up and began to play along, high-fiving the team, picking up one of the player's mom's who took the photo and ran off.  Apparently he was at the park with his own kids when he decided to have some fun.  Awesome.

#3: BILL MURRAY CRASHES HOUSE PARTY, CHUGS BEERS AND JAMS WITH THE BAND

The above photos came during Murray's reign of awesomeness during the 2010 SXSW Festival. On this night, he randomly showed up to a house party, hung out with everyone and rocked the tambourine with house band The Like.  Awesome.

#2: BILL MURRAY PLAYS SLIP-N-SLIDE ON BASEBALL TARP

If your baseball game gets a rain delay and Bill Murray is on hand, never fear.  You'll definitely still get your money's worth and in this case at the Charleston RiverDogs game, Murray took to the field for some slip-n-slide action.  Awesome.

#1: BILL MURRAY FILMS SLOW-MOTION VIDEO IN PLACE OF AUTOGRAPH

David Walton Smith, the original uploader of this video writes in its description: "This is not a trailer for a real film. Bill Murray was kind enough to grant us our wish of walking down the hallway in slow motion - simple. This is better than autograph."  So the story goes that in 2012, Smith and his buddies at film school in South Carolina (one of the school's Murray's kids also attends) spotted Murray and asked for his autograph.  Murray denied, offering this video instead.  Awesome, awesome, AWESOME.
