OK, I am going to warn you right now, get your tissues out. Even the coldest of you who came here today just to check out pic number 40 and accidently clicked on this article might get a little bit verklempt. That’s because a three year old boy named Luke Westbrook in Norfolk, Virginia wrote letters to his recently deceased pet dog, Moe.
Moe and Luke, pen pals.
Moe the Beagle passed away in the beginning of April. Luke’s mom Mary thought a good way for him to deal with his sadness was for Luke to write Moe letters. Each night Luke would write a letter addressed to “Moe Westbrook, Doggie Heaven, Cloud 1” and place it outgoing in the family mailbox.
This went on for several weeks and normally Mary would take the letters out of the mailbox after Luke went to bed. However one night she forgot to do so and assumed the letter would simply be thrown out. That’s why she was shocked when Luke got a response two weeks later. An unstamped letter was in the mailbox with a return address of “From Moe.” The letter said;
“I’m in doggie heaven. I play all day. I am happy. Thank you 4 being my friend. I wuv you Luke.”
Either all dogs really do go to heaven or someone at the post office did a wonderful thing. Luke’s mom says; “Receiving the note reminded me of the goodness of people and just how big a small gesture can really be. Here’s to Moe, in doggie heaven, and thoughtful postal workers everywhere.”
