Jon Stewart just retired from hosting The Daily Show for the past 16 years, but some folks don’t want to let the comedian hit the golf course just yet. They have another job for him: presidential debate moderator. Oh good, this will add a level of seriousness to this presidential election.
A petition at Change.org has over 100,000 signatures as of Friday morning. While some may feel it would be an odd choice to have a man known for sometimes making wacky voices and fart jokes for a living, moderating the debate between people seeking to be the leader of the free world, the creators of the petition see it a different way, saying:
“Jon Stewart is more than qualified to tackle the moderating job,” the petition states. “Mr. Stewart has interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world while establishing himself as the most trusted person in (satirical) news.”
The unlikely presidential debate moderator has gotten a slew of support from celebrities and noted figures including one of the presidential candidates, former Governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley who tweeted:
Can you imagine if Donald Trump is the nominee and the debate is moderated by Stewart?
Even if you hate Jon Stewart and scream “libtard” at the TV every time you see him, maybe you still want to sign the petition if you are just a fan of chaos?
What do you think? Would Jon Stewart be a good choice for one of the three major 2016 presidential debates?
